Singapore Zoo!!

Hi Joel,

I heard that you will be coming to Singapore soon! That’s great news! There are many attractions that I want you to explore but due to time constraint, you can only visit one attraction. But not to worry, you will have an enjoyable time as I will be recommending one of the best attractions during your visit which is the Singapore Zoo! It is an effective demand for the visitors like families with young children, honeymooners, tour groups and empty nesters will visit the zoo during the holidays as compared to local visitors which are mainly the students from schools for educational purposes. So basically it is for all agers. In order to get there, there are two types of transportation that you can take which are accessible like buses and cabs. Most of the visitors visit the Singapore Zoo during the day instead of night time as the opening hours is from 8.30am to 6.00pm. From what I have observed, the visitors visiting the zoo are socially opened and like to have interaction with the animals.

Why Singapore Zoo?

Singapore Zoo is the first primary attraction that visitors will be visiting where they will spend most of their time, either to bond with other people or interact with the animals which also includes the nature
of the zoo like the ambience and the clean environment.

In addition, it provides a fun as well as exciting experience which helps to boost your curiosity on the different types of animals in the natural enclosures especially the endangered species. This shows that Singapore conserves the endangered species for the future generations.

So Joel, I’m sure you want to know what you can do over there, right? Well you can feed the animals when it is their feeding time, take the elephant ride, horse carriage ride, the pony ride at the Rainforest Kidzworld, watch animal shows that you would not want to miss like Splash Safari Show, take the boat ride and many other activities that you can experience while touring the Singapore Zoo.

Nevertheless, there are facilities that contributed to the place which makes it more attracting like dining and small shopping areas. For dining areas, they have KFC Restaurant, Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop, Ah Meng Restaurant, Ah Meng Kopi, Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife, Pizza Fari and The Wild Deli. For shopping areas, it has Cheers convenience store and merchandise area for the visitors to buy and keep the things as souvenirs. Other facilities like toilets, car park area, shuttle bus services and ATM machines are also provided for accessibility.

The service quality it offers is good and friendly. Once you enter the zoo, you will be greeted by their friendly staff and one of them will take a photo of you as a memorandum. The staffs are located everywhere where you can easily ask for help if you ever got lost or curious of certain animals. Most importantly, you can guarantee the safety of the place as the distance between you and the dangerous animals are quite further apart. For example, the cheetah enclosure and the lion enclosure which are located quite a further distance from the visitors.

The Singapore Zoo also meets the special needs of the visitors like having wheelchair-friendly so that they would have the difficulty to move around. However, when you go to the Singapore Zoo, remember to bring poncho or an umbrella as the weather can be unpredictable.

Challenges posed for the Singapore Zoo
The unique nature of this attraction as a service product from what I mentioned to you before is the experience of taking the different types of rides catered to you. For instance, you definitely need to try the horse carriage ride and the elephant ride that you did not get to experience in other attractions in Singapore. However there are some challenges faced by the Singapore Zoo. Firstly, the staffs involved in producing and delivering the product are part of the product itself where the staff help to explain the different types of animals to help the visitors to understand while taking the tram, exploring the zoo. Secondly, the visitors themselves are involved in the production process. For example, the animal show which allows the visitors to participate in. Without the participation from the visitors, the show would not be successful and this will result in low visiting rate in the zoo. Another example is the tram ride that was provided by the Singapore Zoo which they can only experience during their visit. Thirdly, the product is perishable as the visitors can only feed the animals when feeding time and interact with the animals during the day the visit. Lastly, the surroundings of the service delivery process are a feature of the service. Having a clean and environmentally friendly atmosphere, the visitors can feel the amicable services that they offer with the organised and colourful signs located in various parts of the zoo.

Successful Attraction
But you must be wondering why Singapore Zoo has been ranked on TripAdvisor, right? Well, they have met the needs and wants of the target market like showcasing animal shows for the visitors, having good facilities especially the special needs of the visitors and not forgetting the good feedbacks received by the visitors. One thing that made the Singapore Zoo interesting is that the visitors can visit the Night Safari in the evening after spending their day time in the zoo.

What makes the Singapore Zoo unique is that other than animals, they have Orchid garden and tropical crops. The visitors can learn the different types of crops being planted and have a breathtakingly view of vast collection of orchids including Singapore’s national flower, Vanda ‘Miss Joaquim’ which none of the attractions can offer all these 2-in-1. To tell you the truth, it has been successful in promoting itself by the number of visitors visiting the Singapore Zoo due to the word of mouth and the past experience the visitors had during their visit.

Attraction’s impact has on Singapore
Before I end off, let me tell you the impact the Singapore Zoo has on Singapore. The first impact is political impact. Singapore Zoo being internationally known has helped to improve Singapore’s profile and helped to attract more visitors to Singapore due to the recognition of an Orangutan – Ah Meng through the “Breakfast with an Orang Utan” scheme which helped to contribute to the popularity of the attraction. However, they can have a loss of community ownership and control if they did not portray the authenticity of the Singapore’s culture.

The second impact is economic impact where it boosts the tourism receipts and increases their length of stay in Singapore upon wanting to explore more of other attractions. It also helps to create job opportunities where they can hire more staff to manage the place due to high demand and quick flow of visitors visiting the attraction. Still, Singapore Zoo can be greatly affected when there is a loss of visitors if there is a sudden inflated prices or something that can damage the reputation of the attraction.

The last impact is social-cultural impact where they get to interact with other people and learn while getting to know more of Singapore’s culture. Nevertheless, the service or attitude of the staff should be consistent so as to continue to attract more visitors and in order to increase the reputation of the attraction.

That's it for now! I hope this helps you in learning about the Singapore Zoo in Singapore prior to your visit. If there is any doubt, do feel free to contact me again. I will be gladly to help. Anyways, if you ever need help in exploring the Singapore Zoo, there is a Singapore Zoo's map which will help you through! Hope to see you soon! Bye!!!
